FAQs : Sacred Heart Parish
Didn't we just tuck point the Sacred Heart church building?
Answer: Partial patching of the tuck pointing happened 12 years ago. Over the last few years we have completely tuck pointed one-half of the church. The other half will be fully tuck pointed with contributions from this campaign.
Can I contribute funds to sponsor the restoration of a particular stained-glass window?
Answer: Yes, donors may reserve a specific stained-glass window to restore on a first come, first served basis. More information is available in the Stained-Glass Window Restoration Guide available at the Lee Parish Center. Information on funding a window and what windows have been sponsored is listed here.
Do we really need handicapped access to Sacred Heart Church?
Answer: Yes, our present entrance is not ADA-compliant. It is difficult, and often impossible, for the elderly and disabled to safely enter our church. The current handicapped entrance is of limited use since it is too far from parking and not protected from the elements.
Besides providing safe accessibility, will other needs will be met by building a new addition to the church?
Answer:
· A covered drive up entrance allowing parishioners with limited mobility to enter the church without steps and out of inclement weather. It also provides more favorable access during weddings and funerals.
· Additional entrances to the church via gently sloped ramps with no steps.
· Redesigned parking lot providing increased handicap parking closer to accessible entrances.
· Larger ADA-compliant restrooms that include infant changing stations.
· A bride’s room that can also be used as a small meeting room.
· A new Blessings Gift Shop that will provide more space for displays and improved access.
· A new gathering space attached to the church for fellowship before and after Mass. This space can also be used for meetings and social events.
With the new addition to the church, what will happen to the rectory?
Answer: The current rectory was built to accommodate a large number of priests, a housekeeper and meeting space. Over the years it has been increasingly expensive to provide viable and comfortable living space for our pastor and occasional assistant pastor. The plan is to demolish the current rectory and relocate it to a nearby property already owned by the parish. The new rectory would be much smaller and less costly to operate. There may be a period of time that we would rent a home for our priests until a permanent rectory could be built.
Are we going to continue the Heart-to-Heart Fund?
Answer: In 2019, the capital needs of the Heart-to-Heart Fund will be integrated into the goals of the parish capital campaign.
Can I make monthly, quarterly or semi-annual payments toward my campaign pledge? Will I be sent a reminder?
Answer: Yes, you may pay in monthly, quarterly or semi-annual installments. You may pay through automatic withdrawal from a bank account, drop in collection basket or mail a check to the campaign office at:
TTT Capital Campaign
1320 17th Ave
Moline, Il 61265
Please indicate the payment is for the TTT campaign. If you are on a quarterly or semi-annual payment schedule, the campaign office will send you a reminder approximately thirty days before the next scheduled payment.
Will I receive a receipt for my campaign donation to use in filing my taxes?
Answer: Yes, at the end of the calendar year each person contributing will receive a form indicating their annual contributions to our parish, including donations to the Sacred Heart capital campaign.
How soon will the parish begin the work outlined in the campaign material?
Answer: Work on church tuck-pointing and Lee Parish Center air conditioners will begin in the summer of 2019. We expect window restoration to begin in the fall of 2019 and take longer to complete.
Depending on availability of funds from the campaign, work to relocate the parish priests and demolish the current rectory will occur in the summer of 2020. Timing will depend on if we build a new residence or rent an existing nearby location.
Construction of the new addition to the church will be the third phase of our renovation plan. It will begin when we have received enough pledge payments to ensure we can complete the building as designed. We anticipate initial work could begin in late 2020 to mid-2021.
Will we borrow money to complete our building needs?
Answer: Our desire is to remain debt free. Should we need short-term financing, we could use some of our parish reserves and repay that account with future campaign pledge payments. If we still needed a loan, it would only occur with the approval of our pastor and parish finance council.
